She chooses to do so because
She hates people

And also because she
Thinks guests are Evil

She hopes that visitors will stay away
And uses her signs to keep them at bay

She casts her spells and curses the land and pickets around her witch dwelling with her witch sign in her witch hands.
“Curses and curses and curses you all! Have a terrible day! I Hope you trip and fall!”
